The Bury & West Suffolk Tennis Tournament has landed a prestigious award. Now in its 89th year, the event has won the Suffolk LTA’s ‘Tournament of the Year.’
Unveiling the glass trophy at an awards evening in Kesgrave Community and Conference Centre last Saturday [February 27th] Suffolk LTA said: “The organising committee deserve special praise for the outstanding organisation of the Bury & West Suffolk Open Tournament.”
“Culford has hosted the event for the last three years and entries have steadily increased to 220. Under the leadership of Sue Glasswell who works tirelessly to promote the event in the local community and referee Rick Gardner, it has earned glowing praise from parents and competitors alike.”
“The survey carried out after the tournament scored above average in all aspects of its delivery. Now incorporating adult and junior events, a team of volunteers support Sue across the week to deliver a first class event.”
Competitors come from as far afield as Surrey and range in age from under 8 to over 50 years. Receiving the award from former Wimbledon finalist Christine Truman Janes MBE was tournament President Alastair Passey.
